Monday, 30 August 2010 12:28
Join your fellow Baltimore City Police Officers and Firefighters for a sign wave reminding the public "We Stand By Our Oath!" on Tuesday, August 31st at 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 1st at 7:00 a.m.  The location for the sign wave is at the bottom of Interstate 83 at E Fayette Street (across from Police Headquarters).  T-shirts and signs will be provided.

The Mayor and City Council may have turned their backs on keeping their contract with every Police Officer and Firefighter but we won't do that to the public!

Send a message to City Hall - The FOP and IAFF will continue to uphold our oath to protect and serve!  What about you City Hall?

Pension Lawsuit Update PDF Print E-mail

Our attorneys from Saul Ewing, LLP are in the process of making final edits to our complaint which has already been filed in U.S. District Court and they expect the First Amended Complaint, which will include adding our challenge to the new law passed by the Baltimore City Council and signed by Mayor Rawlings-Blake, to be filed by the end of August 2010.  Along with IAFF Local #734, Baltimore City Lodge #3 has hired a testifying actuary to support our premise that the Fire and Police Employees' Retirement System (F&P) has been underfunded by the City of Baltimore and he is also working on the impact the new law will have on all our members - active and retired.

Parity Lawsuit Update PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert F. Cherry, Jr.

After consultion with our attorneys, the FOP has decided to suspend our lawsuit against the City of Baltimore challenging the parity provision the Fire Unions have in their MOU until we resolve any litigation against the City of Baltimore in U.S. District Court over the changes to our pension plan.  The FOP has worked hard to maintain an alliance with both Fire Unions - IAFF Local #734 and IAFF Local #964 - and it is in the best interest of our members to conserve our resources and focus on the bigger battle with the City of Baltimore to restore our pension benefits that the City took away with the passage of the law that took effect on July 1, 2010.
